Sometimes, the news overwhelms me. I can only listen for so long before I need to take a break and breathe.
And I often feel like I need to do something. Something that would make the world beautiful and peaceful again.
I was working in my shed this week, putting it back together after the leak.

This is seriously my scrap wood pile. It’s not that bad, right? #hoarder
After the Orlando shootings, my Facebook feed was filled with rainbow-colored hearts.
And I had an idea…
I found some colorful reclaimed wood in my scrap pile. I arranged it so that it fit together, then drew a heart shape on it with a pencil.
I attached the wood pieces to a 1 x 2 scrap piece with my narrow crown stapler. I stapled the wood from the front side of the heart into the 1 x 2.
Then I used my jigsaw to cut out the heart shape.
I added a D-ring hook to the 1 x 2 on the back to hang it.
And then I hung this DIY scrap wood heart on our front porch door.
The whole project took about 30 minutes and used materials I already had. And it made me feel a little better. Creating something is therapeutic to me.
People are kind of like wood, when you think about it. We come in all sizes and shapes and colors. Some of us are older, some newer. We have splinters and rings and knots that make us unique and lovely. And when we come together, we make something beautiful.
I wish you all peace and kindness and beauty and love.
