Boy’s Bedroom for Sports Fan

July 26, 2012 By Karen Cooper 1 Comment

I finished D’s room today and, as promised, here is the big reveal…with one caveat.  We needed to put another coat of paint on the trim and then my trim-hanging helper super-hero couldn’t do it today.  So, here is the big reveal, sans trim.  I love it and, more importantly, D loves it!  So, without further ado, here we go.  The paint color on the walls is Blue Springs from Benjamin Moore.  I used the zero VOC, no odor Natura paint in eggshell.

The pictures go around the room counterclockwise, starting when you walk in to the right…

D’s desk came from the Decatur First Baptist Garage Sale a couple of years ago.  It was painted red and yellow, which he didn’t like.  So I repainted it then and he’s loved it ever since.  It’s a great desk, solid wood.  The chair is from Ikea.  I got the glass top for it this year at the same church garage sale for $2.50.  I added the shelf above it, so that he can display his lego creations there (Ikea, as is room, $6 for shelf and brackets – woot!).

There’s the big Fathead wall decal.  I love it.  The little yellow chair with the bear on it was my chair when I was little.  My mother needlepointed my name on the cover when I was a kid, then my brother’s, then D’s when he was born, then M’s when she was born.  It’s awesome.

Here are the curtains again.  I still love them.  Also, the chair is his rocking chair from when D was a baby, and on the back of it is a Duke blanket that my good friend Cynthia gave me as a wedding gift (does she know me or what?).

I love that D’s room has a ton of shelves for storage.  I put his Legos on the shelves (all in labeled clear plastic boxes), his books, his stuffed animals, and some bins.  The green bucket holds tickets from football games and other events.  The green and blue bins hold small toys and his “creations” – art and bookmarks and other stuff that he made.  The buckets came from Target and the bins came from Home Goods.

The bed.  Nothing new here – same quilt he’s had since he got a big boy bed.  It came from Company Store Kids.  (BTW, the circle thingy on the left is a shadow or something on my camera lens – ??)  The picture above his bed is a picture he drew of a train.  It had been taped to the wall, hanging there, for about two years.  I smoothed it out and framed it for him.

The furniture in this room was Dear Husband’s father’s furniture when he was a bachelor.  Nice mid-century modern vibe, but the clean lines work in here because they aren’t fussy and can work with whatever we make D’s room into.

His dresser, with another green bucket to hold his wallet, brush, and any other important knick knacks.  To the left of that is a magnetic board for his art projects and a basketball goal trash can (love it!).  Oh, and there’s Hank.  He’s been a big help on these projects.  Here’s how he helped me with the curtains yesterday:

So, there it is.  D loves it and that makes me insanely happy.  I hope you enjoyed the tour, too.
