Cool and Collected

April 1, 2014 By Karen Cooper 10 Comments

Cool design can be found anywhere. Today I want to share with you the cool and collected Zonolite Hair Studio, where I get my hair cut. Monika, the owner, has decorated the salon with vintage touches and her own art and creations. It’s a funky, cool, beautiful place. Come take a tour with me.

whole-salon-cool-collected-Dogs Don't Eat PizzaThe salon’s decor combines leather and metal to create an industrial look.  Toolboxes, retractable power cords, metal mirrors, and soft leather chairs contribute to the modern, industrial vibe.

welcoming-committee - Dogs Don't Eat PizzaMimi the Dog welcomes everyone to the salon. She’ll come over to have her ears scratched and become your best friend.

waiting-area-chair - Dogs Don't Eat PizzaWassily chairs in the waiting area are comfy and funky.

cowhide-on-sofa - Dogs Don't Eat PizzaThe whole waiting area – complete with sofa covered in cowhide and funky art, made by Monika, the owner – is welcoming and comfortable.

vintage-ironing-board - snack-station - Dogs Don't Eat PizzaWho wouldn’t want a cuppa coffee or snack from this vintage ironing board snack station?

reclaimed-wood-table - Dogs Don't Eat PizzaI love this reclaimed wood table for client meetings and browsing magazines.

tool-cart-and-mirror- Dogs Don't Eat PizzaEach work station has a metal industrial mirror and wheeled tool cart for supplies.

vintage-chair-and-coke-crate-magazines - Dogs Don't Eat PizzaAn old Coke crate holds magazines, on top of a cute kids’ chair.

vintage-covered-chair - Dogs Don't Eat PizzaI love how Monika has layered textures – a wood chair with velvet and nailhead trim with a burlap throw; a more traditional ottoman with a sheepskin;  a metal mirror and mirrored table with a plush rug.

metal-cabinet- Dogs Don't Eat PizzaI covet this metal storage cabinet.

chalkboard-door-cart- Dogs Don't Eat PizzaThe chalkboard door gives the kids something fun to do while their parents are being pampered.

art-on-reclaimed-door - Dogs Don't Eat PizzaThis painting is on an old door. If you look closely, you can see the door’s panels within the painting.

antique-dresser-as-display - Dogs Don't Eat PizzaMonika displays jewelry she’s made and sells on this vintage painted dresser at the front of the store.

art-mirror - Dogs Don't Eat PizzaSeriously, the coolest, funkiest mirror ever.

Thanks for stopping by!

Don’t laugh, but I swear that my hairdresser’s salon is cooler and funkier and prettier than your hairdresser’s salon (which is pretty great). I’ll send you photos after I go on Friday. 🙂

I’m a hairstylist and I would LOVE to work in a salon that cool! I get so sick of black and white damask like you see in every salon out here! Stylists are supposed to be “artists”, this salon definitely proves that. So cool!
