Decorating for Fall

September 15, 2020 By Karen Cooper 20 Comments

There are two kinds of people this time of year.

Decorating for fall in our dining room - thediybungalow.com

Those who are hanging on to the last bits of summer…

Pumpkins in dough bowl to decorate our home for fall - thediybungalow.com

and those who are ushering in fall with open arms.

I’m in that second category.

Do you decorate your home for fall? I love adding a few touches to welcome the new season.

Summer here is so hot and humid that, as soon as the temperature drops and the humidity breaks, I am ready for pumpkins and falling leaves.

Decorating for fall doesn’t have to break the bank. Small touches here and there create an overall autumn feel.

I love this teal, gold, and orange color scheme for fall. I love the warmth of the earth tones with the teal blues.

In my dining room, I added some fall (faux) foliage (say that ten times fast!) to a glass demijohn vase and to two galvanized pails on the chimney brick. The vase came from Marshalls and the pails from a furnishings consignment store.

These pails might be my favorite thing in the dining room. I just tied burlap around their handles and hooked the burlap to the screws already in the brick.

I made this pumpkin from mason jar lids a friend gave me for free! I used wire to connect the lids together in a circle, and topped it off with a champagne cork (a wine cork or even a twig would work, too) to make a stem!

Pumpkins make fun placecard holders when decorating a table for fall - thediybungalow.com

Mini-pumpkins make great, inexpensive place cards.

The terra cotta baker came from a thrift store, and the faux apples came from a craft fair. The fabric runners – the inspiration for the color scheme – are just strips of fabric hemmed with glue.  Click here for how to make a runner in thirty minutes and with a few dollars’ worth of fabric!

I carried the color scheme into the living room.

I found the pillows and blanket at HomeGoods.

No fall decorating is complete without candy corn and mallow creme pumpkins!

Decorating a home for fall can be easy and done on a budget - thediybungalow.com

Different pumpkins with different textures – fabric, mercury glass, copper, even plastic – from Marshalls and Michaels – live happily together in my antique dough bowl.

I’m so glad it’s fall!

Ha, that canning jar ring “pumpkin” is too cool. What a neat idea. You could probably paint them orange too if you wanted to make it look even more pumpkin-y
