Good Monday morning, y’all!
Today, I am officially starting the dining room re-do. As I explained in the post First You Gotta Have a Plan, well, you first need to plan things out. So, following those instructions, here’s where I am:
First, define the scope of the project: This is easy – it’s the dining room. And I know what I have to accomplish here: make it brighter, remove the chair rail, paint it a lighter color, remove the elements that don’t work, try to fix the plantation shutters (if possible).
Second, pick the specifics: Done. Paint color is Moonshine by Benjamin Moore. I had this paint as a sample from when I painted our guest room (and ended up painting it Gentle Rain by Behr instead). As soon as I put it on the wall, I knew it was right.
In terms of furniture, I’m going to use what we already have: moving the expandable table from the breakfast room into the dining room (and moving my old (but perfectly fine) kitchen table into the breakfast room), keeping the buffet in the dining room, slipcovering the chairs with lighter fabric. Not sure about the rug yet. Going to need to see it painted first before deciding this.
Third, make a list. Again, done. I worked on that this weekend. Paint needed. I’m out of spackle (am I the only person who runs out of spackle?). I need some drywall patch from removing the chair rail. I already ordered the slipcovers for the chairs. And I’m making a list of everything I’m taking to the consignment store.
Fourth, set aside time. Ah, this is where I am right now. I’m going to spend today prepping – taking the stuff we don’t want to the consignment store, buying supplies needed, removing the chair rail, patching the drywall, taping off the trim. Tomorrow, I’ll start painting. Hopefully I can finish Wednesday, but I realize that might be overly ambitious. Good thing I am on spring break all week!
So, that’s the plan. Thanks for stopping by!
Can’t wait to see the results!
Thanks!
