Happy Friday, Friends!! This week has flown by! I’m working on a few things around here I want to share with you – the first being five big changes to the blog! I’ve been working behind the scenes on the blog to make it easier to find posts and projects here. So, for the Friday Five: five big changes to the blog to make your reading experience the BEST!
1. A new tagline.
Everyone knows me as “Dogs Don’t Eat Pizza Karen,” which I love, but the name “Dogs Don’t Eat Pizza” doesn’t really convey what this blog is about, which is DIY and home projects. I wanted the title of the blog to remain true to who I am and how the blog came to be while, at the same time, reflect the subject of the blog.
To satisfy both of these competing goals, I decided on a new tagline, the language under the title of the blog:
Dogs Don’t Eat Pizza – Design with (Re)Purpose – reflects exactly what this blog is: the title is the same, but the tagline showcases home design, repurposing, home decor, and DIY.
2. New Categories
When I write a post on the blog, I assign it a category – i.e., a classification based on what the post is about. I’ve added some new categories and made others more specific, so that it’s easier to find the posts you want to read!
You can find posts by category a few ways. First, as in the above picture, by clicking on the dropdown menu in the sidebar that says, “Find a Post by Category.”
But there are other ways to find posts using the categories…
3. Expanded Project Index
If you’ve used my Project Index before, you know that it’s organized by these categories. Well, now that I’ve added some categories and made others more specific, the Project Index is even easier to use!
Just hover over the “Project Index” heading in the menu up top and you’ll see a dropdown menu of the most popular categories.
If you want to see projects from all the categories, click on the “Project Index” heading and you’ll see…
4. The Improved Project Index Page
If you click on the “Project Index” heading in the main menu, you’ll arrive at the Project Index page.
From this page, right at the top, you can search projects by category, by date, or by any search term. Below the search boxes, you can see some posts from the most popular categories. Just click on the thumbnail picture or the title of the post to go right to that post. To find more posts in that category, click “See More” under the thumbnails.
I’ve been going through all the posts and categorizing or re-categorizing them so that they are easier for you to find. I’m still working on this (there are almost 400 posts!), and I’ll keep you posted if I introduce new categories.
If you ever want to know about a post or can’t find a post you’re looking for, please let me know! You can email me at dogsdonteatpizzakaren@gmail.com, or send me a message on Facebook (click HERE to find me on Facebook) or Twitter (click HERE to find me on Twitter).
5. A new and improved “About” page.
I did this a little while ago, but if you’re new here or you haven’t checked it out yet, I’ve got a new and improved “About” page. It tells you about me, about the blog and why it’s called “Dogs Don’t Eat Pizza,” and the best engagement story EVER.
What else is going on?
Well, I mentioned the other day on Facebook and Instagram (follow me on Instagram HERE), I have a super-secret design project going on. I can’t spill the beans about it yet, but it’s going to be awesome! I’m designing a space for some very deserving people. And the space needs serious design help! I’ll be Instagramming things I find related to the project, so you can see what I’m up to. It’s going to be fun!
Please check out all the new features here and let me know what you think! Thanks!
Have a great weekend!
Karen, the new layout and indexing is wonderful! So many great projects, I’ll have to clone myself to do them all!
That said, can you eliminate the pop-up which often comes up which reads “are you sure you want to navigate away from this page?” – reminds me of Publisher’s Clearing House advertisements. :)))
Thanks always!!!
Thank you, Christina! I get that popup, too, but it’s a Google Chrome thing and not a DDEP thing. Sorry!
