The Friday Five: Five DIY Projects You Can Do in a Weekend

January 22, 2016 By Karen Cooper Leave a Comment

It’s the weekend! Do you DIY on the weekends? Are you a weekend warrior? Then this Friday Five is for you! Today, The Friday Five is five DIY projects you can do in a weekend!

(1) Decorate a pillow.

Seriously, this could not be easier.

In our guest room, I bought two plain green pillows at IKEA for about $5 each. I added royal blue ribbon (to coordinate with the guest room wall) with Fabri-Tac fabric glue. Bam. Done in a few minutes and I have custom pillows!

You could also write on them with a sharpie or, if you sew, attach ribbon or other embellishments that way. I can’t sew, so glue is my go-to fabric attacher!

(2) Make a chalkboard.

You can make a chalkboard out of any surface!

Or use just a piece of plywood:

My go-to chalkboard paint is this one from Rust-Oleum – it covers the best in fewer coats!

(3) Paint an accent wall.

It will take you less than a day to paint an accent wall.

But the impact is huge!

Paint a solid color, like I did in my guest room, or paint a mural if you’re feeling creative.

For other ways to decorate a wall, see this round-up from Huffington Post (my tree is #48!!).

(4) Hide the cords.

If you have an IKEA (or similar) basket and some annoying cable or power cords, this is the project for you!

Super easy and it works!

(5) Create a Coffee Bar.

With the storm coming, you’re going to want something hot to drink. How about setting up a coffee (or tea or cocoa) bar in your home?
