Whew! Getting Back in the DIY Saddle

August 31, 2016 By Karen Cooper Leave a Comment

Hello, friends! I know it’s been quiet here lately. I’ve been trying to be good and rest my injured ankle. I got great news yesterday: my ankle isn’t broken and nothing is torn! It’s just a high ankle sprain. I have about a week to ten days more in the boot and then I can ease back into things. Whew! I can’t wait to get back in the DIY saddle, so to speak!

While I’ve been trying to rest, I’ve been thinking about projects and goals I’d like to accomplish coming up.

Obviously, the guest bathroom is on top of that list. It still has the paint sample squares on the wall from umpteen weeks ago!

Remember this? I chose Hale Navy, FYI.

And, as I’ve been staring at the walls, I’ve noticed that many of the walls in our home need repainting. The house was painted before we moved in, but it wasn’t done well and most of the walls are still creamy beige – not my favorite, even in an older home.

So, I’ve been thinking about paint colors. I love grays, but I’m a warm color kind of girl, if you look around my home. Even the grays in my home are darker, deeper – not the cool, lighter grays. So I’m thinking about painting the walls crisp white (Simply White or something similar) and then punching up the color in the room with accessories.

I know that farmhouse style is all the rage right now, but I’m not a decorating-with-neutrals decorator. I like having the big pieces in the room being neutral – we have a white couch in our living room and an olive green sectional in our family room, for example – but I like infusing color into those rooms, whether in the rugs, art, or accessories.

To that end, I’m shopping my home to rethink where to put some accessories to have these bursts of color in each room. I’ll share with you how I did this so that you can try it in your home, too.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know what’s been going on over here and to let you know that, even if my saw isn’t cutting and paintbrush isn’t filled, my brain is spinning with ideas and inspiration.
