Thirty Days of Gratitude, Day 21: I am grateful for my back porch. The back porch of our 1929 house is my very favorite place to relax.
In fact, I am writing this post from the porch. I hear the birds, the weather is perfect, and the dogs are lying next to me. It’s lovely.
Just FYI: the sectional is from Ikea. The rug is from World Market. The coffee table is from a yard sale ($10!).
The table is an old Pottery Barn table that was in my first apartment long, long ago – repurposed as a dining table for cool spring nights!
Happy Friday, everyone! I hope you have a relaxing weekend on your porch or wherever you have a happy place.
What are you grateful for today?

Here’s how to fix a screened porch when, for example, your large labrador retriever runs through it. Hypothetically, of course.
Nice house, love the living room! Those windows works pretty well with greens outside, well done!
Thank you!
Our painted screened in porch needs attention. This bungalow is almost 100 years old and I can’t remember the last time we had it painted. Looks terrible now. It is only half-screened as the screens are on the top half of the 3 sided porch. A contractor recommended power washing and then paint, but I just read power washing is not so hot for wood. What would you do? I really like how your porch looks. I realize I am asking for free advice. Thank you.
Hi Lucinda,
I agree re the power washing, especially if you have peeling paint. Cleaning the surface will make the new paint adhere better. You can rent a power washer or have a painter or other professional do it, and they use a cleaning solution that will dry and should not harm the wood. We have wood siding on part of our house and we had it pressure-washed and painted and it’s doing well! Thank you for reaching out – hope this helps! Keep me posted!
