Growing (Writing Prompt Post)

April 24, 2014 By Karen Cooper Leave a Comment

“Where was I?”

“You were growing.”

“Oh, right.”

– Billy Crystal & Bruno Kirby, When Harry Met Sally

The other night – the night before leaving for the SNAP Conference – I had one of those dreams over which analysts/Freud would have had a field day. I was in a huge hotel conference room, and my legal writing class was there. I was teaching them, but I kept getting called out of the room to my “office” next door. In the office was a client, and I was apparently working on his disability lawsuit. I kept having to go back and forth between the two rooms.

Finally, my former boss at the law firm said to me, “Are you ready? It’s time to go.”

And then I woke up.

A few things to note: (1) SNAP is being held at a hotel, in several conference rooms; (2) my last case when I was practicing law was a disability case.

Symbolic? Hmmm.

Last week’s writing prompt for my bloggers’ writing group was “what’s growing in your life right now?” I didn’t get to write on it, because I was dealing with computer issues, but, once I had this dream, I knew what I wanted to write about.

What’s growing in my life – and what this dream signifies to me – is that it’s time to grow the creative, non-law side of my life. This blog. My projects. My DIY and home decor skills.

It’s time to grow, well, ME.

Fast forward to today, where I am at the SNAP Conference with some of the most talented, successful bloggers around. I am ready to learn from them. I am ready to grow.

It’s time to go.

Thanks for stopping by,
