Home Projects in 30 Minutes or Less

March 21, 2020 By Karen Cooper Leave a Comment

I hope this post finds everyone healthy and well. I was thinking about some projects you could do while staying home – projects that are easy, quick, and fun! You can do any of these five home projects in 30 minutes or less – instant (almost) gratification!

1. Make custom curtains.

No, I’m not kidding. You can make custom curtains in thirty minutes or less. You need some white curtains and a Sharpie and you are ready to go.

I bought these curtains at IKEA, but you can find them at most big box stores. Choose a theme for your words – I chose food and cooking words because the curtains were for my dining room – and the script you want to use – I alternated between cursive and print. Just place the curtain on cardboard or other surface so that the Sharpie marker doesn’t bleed through and start writing!

2. Make a faux Roman shade.

Sticking with the curtain theme, you can make faux Roman shades for any window in your home in less than 30 minutes.

Faux Roman shades I made for the kitchen in our old house (they stayed in the old house).

Would you believe that I made those shades from shower curtains? I loved this project so much that, when we moved into our new-to-us house, I made shades for our bathroom.

This is an easy project, especially if you use shower curtains because the edges are already hemmed! For the full tutorial, click HERE.

3. Plant some herbs.

Even if you don’t have a green thumb, you can grow herbs in your kitchen or on your porch, and planting them takes less than 30 minutes.

Just grab some pots and some herbs at your local hardware or garden store. Use potting soil specifically designed for herbs or garden plants.

For a crafty touch, add plant markers painted with chalkboard paint, like I did in my farmhouse-style herb garden, above.

4. Organize ONE area.

The key here is ONE. Take one area in your home that needs organizing, set a timer for twenty or thirty minutes, and get to it!

The idea of organizing your whole house or even a whole room can feel daunting and make you want to procrastinate (we’ve all been there). But if you just take one area – a small closet, your pantry, your kitchen cabinets, for example – and set a timer, you can knock out that area in a short amount of time. And that might encourage you to tackle another area! Soon, your whole home will be organized!

5. Rearrange a room.

I think this one is my favorite. Take one room that you’ve wanted to rearrange or you’ve wondered if the furniture is in the right place, and rearrange it.

Rearranging a room costs nothing and can take as little as thirty minutes. The best part: you either love how it’s rearranged, or you put it back the way it was. Either way, you’re only out a little time!

I hope this has inspired you to take thirty minutes and do something in your home! Let me know in the comments what home projects you’ve accomplished in thirty minutes or less!
