Look for Less: Farmhouse Style

March 18, 2016 By Karen Cooper 4 Comments

One of my favorite shows on HGTV was the High-Low Project: where the designer would decorate a room with high-end furniture and finishes and then re-create the same look in the room on a budget. I loved how it showed you could get the same, high-end look at a fraction of the price.

Today I’ve got my own version of the high-low project. Kirkland’s – the fabulous home decor and gift store – challenged me to create a look in my favorite style and then re-create it for less with Kirkland’s furnishings and decor. Challenge accepted!

I chose farmhouse style, because it’s so versatile – it fits in any kind of house – and because I know so many people love this style! I love the rustic touches, the mix of materials like wood and metal, and the overall relaxed, comfortable style.

Pottery Barn Lincoln Upholstered Armchair - farmhouse look for less - thediybungalow.com

This upholstered armchair is from Pottery Barn. It has beautiful French country-style legs and is upholstered in oatmeal-colored linen blend fabric. Price: $719.97 (on sale as of today; normally $899).

Kirkland's Jana Oatmeal Chair - farmhouse look for less - thediybungalow.com

This Jana Oatmeal Accent Chair is from Kirkland’s. It is also upholstered in oatmeal-colored linen fabric – a trademark of farmhouse style. It has more modern, linear legs, but adds brass nailhead trim along the bottom of the chair. Price: $279.99.

Savings: $439.98. You could buy two for less than what one cost at Pottery Barn – score!

Pottery Barn Samantha Console Table - farmhouse look for less - thediybungalow.com

This console table is also from Pottery Barn. It has great storage – three drawers, two adjustable shelves – and a cream-colored finish. It also has three electrical plugs on the back for plugging in your devices. Price: $799.

Kirkland's Buttermilk Shutter Console Table - farmhouse look for less - thediybungalow.com

This Buttermilk Shutter 3-Drawer Console Table is from Kirkland’s. It also has a cream finish with good storage – three drawers and a fixed shelf. It doesn’t have any electrical outlets, but you’ll save so much over the pricier version that you could buy yourself a really nice power strip. Price: $199.99.

Savings: $599.01.

This trestle console table looks like it was made from reclaimed wood and balusters.

Ballard Designs Andrew Serving Table - farmhouse look for less - thediybungalow.com

From Ballard Designs, it’s got a gray-washed finish (also comes in whitewashed finish). Price: $729.

Kirkland's Wooden Trestle Table - farmhouse look for less - thediybungalow.com

This trestle console table from Kirkland’s also has a narrow profile and has the look of reclaimed wood. Price: $229.99.

Savings: $499.01.

West Elm adjustable-rustic-industrial-stool - farmhouse look for less - thediybungalow.com

I love this industrial stool! From West Elm, it has an adjustable seat made from solid wood, plus steel legs. Price: $229.

Kirkland's Industrial Stool - farmhouse look for less - thediybungalow.com

This equally gorgeous industrial stool is from Kirkland’s. It has an adjustable seat and is made from wood and metal, too. Price: $129.99.

Savings: $99.01.

I love big clocks and I cannot lie…

Home Decorators Collection Metal Industrial Clock - farmhouse look for less - thediybungalow.com

This metal clock from Home Decorators Collection has a copper finish and big Roman numerals. It’s big – 28″ in diameter – making it perfect for a dining room or over a fireplace. Price: $100.

Kirkland's Dawson Industrial Clock - farmhouse look for less - thediybungalow.com

This rustic-looking clock from Kirkland’s has wood and metal accents – love the mix of organic materials! – and is slightly smaller at 23.75 in. in diameter. But the price tag is smaller, too – $41.99.

Savings: $58.01.

Total savings by shopping farmhouse style decor at Kirkland’s: $1695.02! That’s huge!

“I love big clocks and I cannot lie” LOL!

Enjoyed your post today. I’ll give Kirkland’s another look. I thought they just carried tchotchkes and the like.

Thanks, Cathy! I know – I remember going to the mall and to Kirkland’s many years ago and walking out. But now, their offerings are so much more varied and span all kinds of styles and tastes. Let me know what you find!
