Today was a beautiful day. The sun was out. It was breezy and crisp. The perfect fall day. I had a ton to do at home but decided that I needed a little fresh air and a little break. So I headed out to the Scott Antiques Market for some fun.
Scott’s is a huge market – there are two warehouse-size buildings’ worth of antiques and treasures. But my favorite part is the area outside to the right of one of the buildings. That’s where I can pick through spindles and knobs and windows and doors.
And this is my happy place. I mean, I like all the stuff because it’s industrial and rustic and graphic and has a history. But I also love thinking about how all of this stuff didn’t end up in a landfill. That someone loved it and someone else will put it to good use. Recycling and upcycling make me incredibly happy.
I found this old window there today. It was $25. It’s about to become the door to this wonky alcove in our master bath. I just need some hinges and a magnetic clasp to close it.
Today I’m grateful for salvage, because it makes me happy, I get to find useful things to reuse, and cool stuff doesn’t get thrown in a landfill.
