Every November, I do something called “Thirty Days of Gratitude.” The original post explaining it and why I do it is HERE, and you can find all the Thirty Days of Gratitude posts HERE.
This year, however, is going to be a little different. Yes, I am still doing the Thirty Days of Gratitude. Yes, I still think that after Halloween is too soon to start Christmas decorating and November is the time to focus on for what we are thankful.
This year, we have had a LOT going on at our house. Certainly the last few months have been nutty.
And that means that our home is a mess.
Yes, that’s right – this home/DIY blogger takes pretty pictures of rooms that are decorated and clean but, when the camera’s off and real life happens, things can get cluttered and disorganized and, well, a mess.
And yet, I am so grateful for our house as a sanctuary from the nuttiness and as inspiration for more projects (and blog posts).
But it needs a big ol’ de-cluttering and cleaning!
So, this year, for Thirty Days of Gratitude, I am doing a tidying-up edition!
Every day in November, I’m going to focus on one space in my home – it might be a room or a closet or even a binder of recipes. And I’m going to clean it out, organize it, purge what we don’t need, clean it, and put it back together. Then I’m going to explain why I’m grateful for that part of our home being neat.
Please join me! You don’t have to do a space every day. But if you’ve been thinking that you need to de-clutter or reorganize your space, now’s the time! Let’s do it together and inspire each other!
Later this week – because are we already at the end of October?!?!? – I’ll post the schedule of spaces I’m going to work on each day. And every day in November, I’ll post – either on the blog or on social media – about one space that’s been tidied and why I’m grateful for it.
Are you ready? Will you join me?
Have you seen the blog, Subtraction Project? She has a very workable approach. Love your concept of one holiday at a time – old school isn’t all bad! Will love joining you in gratitude.
No – I’ll have to check that out! Thank you!! Thanks for joining in!
Love this idea, Karen. Thanks for the nudge!
Thanks, Cathy!
Great idea, but I don’t know where to start…I need to organize my thoughts! I love organization! I am always striving to be organized at home and at school, too. For me, when my surroundings are organized….or semi-organized, at least, I feel centered and less harried. I must admit a bit of envy, too. I would love to work full-time at home on the 30 days of gratitude, but, alas, I must go to school! I will find each day, at home or school, a little organization task. Every little bit helps!
Exactly – even a little bit helps. I feel the same way about our home – when it’s a mess, I feel a mess; when it’s organized, I feel so much better. That’s what I’m hoping for here.
This is a great idea! I would love to join in……However, other than daily necessities, everything we own is still packed in boxes in one of the spare rooms! Yep, still remodeling chaos here. But I’ll cheer everyone on very happily. This time next year though, I’ll have to jump, dive, and propell myself onboard!
Completely understandable. Next year, then!
That’s a very noble commitment, Karen, and I have a feeling you’ll stick with it. I’m afraid it would be too much for me though, but November does need to be a busy month for me too.. I may try a room a week and break down areas I’ve worked on in each. You’ve inspired me, so I hope by tracking your progress, I can keep my initiative going too!
Awesome! Try it with me – a little at a time. We are hosting the holidays this year, so I have added incentive to get it done. Thanks!
Karen, you always inspire me. Consider me on board for 30 days of gratitude. Decluttrt ing a space is like balancing your check book or getting an overdue haircut – they may seem like small insignificant achievements, but they always make me feel ‘back together’ again & ready to handle anything.
Exactly! I feel the same way! I’m glad you’re joining in!! And thank you for your kind words!
Wow, what timing! My approach may have to be a little different since we are still in unpacking mode and most of the declutter candidates are in the basement, but I will love to have you motivating me to keep at it! We are hosting Thanksgiving so I want to be in tip top shape! And remembering to feel grateful while I’m at it would be a nice bonus. 🙂
Perfect! It’s the perfect time to get this done!
