Top Five Posts of 2016 (Friday Five)

December 30, 2016 By Karen Cooper 4 Comments

Happy Almost New Year!

Each year, I count down the top 10 posts of the year. Seeing that it’s Friday, though, it seemed perfect for a Friday Five list! So, without further ado, my top five posts of 2016:

1. Open Shelving in the Kitchen: One Year Later

Open Shelving in the Kitchen One Year Later - thediybungalow.com

In this post, I speak honestly about whether I regret putting open shelving in my kitchen when I renovated it almost two years ago (to see the renovation reveal and story, please see this post).  I go through the main concerns readers voiced about the shelving and reflect on whether each was an issue.

Thinking about open shelving for your kitchen? Read that post first.

2. Top Five Tips for Shopping at Thrift Stores

Five essential tips for thrift store shopping from thediybungalow.com

I love a good thrift store! In this post, I share my top secrets for good thrift store shopping! Read this post, save some pennies, and head to a thrift store ready to shop!

3. DIY Sofa Table from 2x4s

Ah, the table that almost wasn’t…

DIY Sofa Table from 2x4s - thediybungalow.com

I built this cool sofa table as part of a challenge to build something out of only 2x4s. I nearly botched it (read about my almost-DIY-fail here), but in the end I made something I loved.

4. What to Look for when Shopping for Vintage Furniture

Five things to look for when shopping for vintage furniture - thediybungalow.com

This post goes hand in hand with the thrift store post you loved, too. Here, I answer a reader’s question about what to look for when shopping thrift stores, estate sales, antique stores, and elsewhere for vintage furniture.

5. Our Trip to Magnolia Market

What to expect when visiting Magnolia Market and the Silos in Waco - thediybungalow.com

We had a blast when we went to the Silos and Magnolia Market last year! In this post, I share memories from our trip and my tips for what to expect if you go.

There they are – the most read posts of 2016!

2016 was kind of a weird year around here. We had two mold disasters, fixed a flooding basement, suffered a few injuries, had a few critters in the attic, and more. Here’s hoping that 2017 is a bit calmer and filled with more decorating than disaster!

And you may have noticed I’ve been making changes to the blog over the last year. That’s all in anticipation of a BIG change coming up. More on that soon, but it’s very exciting!

Thank you so much for reading my blog, for sharing my projects, for hopefully trying some projects, and sharing your thoughts and experiences. I am so grateful for you!

Wishing you all a happy, healthy, fun, exciting new year!!
