Twas the Weekend Before Christmas

December 22, 2017 By Karen Cooper 3 Comments

Twas the weekend before Christmas,
The house was a mess.
I was the picture
of panic and stress.
The stockings were hung
by the chimney with care.
But not much else was done,
Under the tree, almost bare.
The children were nestled
all warm, playing Wii,
While I was planning a trip
to the grocery.
The gifts weren’t wrapped,
the menu not planned,
With half of us sick,
we didn’t feel grand.
When what to my sleepy eyes
did appear,
but my Dear Husband,
with some holiday cheer.
“I’ll take the kids,
we’ll load up the ‘sleigh,’
We’ll get out of the house
and go see a matinee.”
He said I could then
get all my stuff done.
And he’d get everyone out of the house
so I could prep for Christmas fun.
At first, it sounded too good
to be true…
I could wrap all the gifts
and run errands, too!
But wait, I thought,
scratching my head.
I would rather be
with all of you instead!
Christmas isn’t about gifts,
nor potatoes nor turkey.
It’s about time spent
with friends and family.
So away we all went
to the local shopping mall,
to the theater for a movie,
and popcorn for all.
The gifts will get wrapped,
the food all prepared.
What can’t be replaced
is the time that we shared.
So putting a finger
aside of my cheek,
I took a deep breath
and smiled at my peeps.
And one could hear me exclaim
as we drove out of sight…
Merry Christmas to all,
and to all a good night.

Merry Christmas to all of you.  I wish you peace, blessings, and joy. xo
