You Gotta Have Art (and it’s easy to make!)

April 17, 2013 By Karen Cooper 2 Comments

The other night, my fortune cookie had this fortune in it:

I couldn’t agree more. Time to create some art.

I had bought a package of canvases at Michael’s (on sale and with a coupon) eons ago. I grabbed one. I used “Thickers” stickers and created the message I wanted on the canvas. I wanted something inspirational – something to make everyone get up and go in the mornings.

So, I put the stickers on the canvas and then took it outside and spray painted it. I used Rustoleum spray paint in purple – something bright and happy.

Once it dried, I brought it inside and started peeling off the stickers.

I had left the canvas white under the stickers, but you could certainly paint the canvas first, then put the stickers on and paint over it. That would make the letters the color of underlying coat. I liked the contrast of white and purple.

The paint did not bleed under the stickers – it came out exactly how I wanted (woot!). So easy to do.

I decided to hang it above the stairs as part of our gallery wall. Inspiration as we come down the stairs to start our day.

Inspiration for each day: 1. Wake up. 2. Be awesome. 3. Go to sleep.

Thanks for stopping by!
