Today marks the two-year blog-iversary of Dogs Don’t Eat Pizza. That’s right – I started this little blog two years ago today! To celebrate, I thought I would count down the 10 most popular projects of 2013 (as determined by you, my faithful readers!).
Ready for a trip down memory lane? Here goes! (You can find the links to the projects in the description or by clicking on the picture.)
10. Memo Board from Old Window
I took an old window I found at the curb and transformed it into a memo board/dry erase calendar.
We still use it as our weekly memo board/calendar.
9. My Son’s Gym Floor Headboard
I found an old floor from a local gym at my favorite salvage warehouse and turned it into a headboard in my son’s sports-themed room:
8. The Dining Room – Finally Done!
You all deserve a prize for reading all my posts about the changes made in our dining room! Finally, though, it’s done. Done. Done.
7. Adding a Pop of Color to Our Entry
A little paint and a new bench and our entry was transformed from blah to blue.
I’m always amazed with what a little paint can do.
6. Brighten Built-Ins with Fabric
This might have been my favorite project of the year, because it was pretty easy and pretty inexpensive but made a big impact in the room. I covered poster boards with fabric and attached them to the back of our built-in bookcases:
5. An Organized Pantry
I still think that turning our garage storage room into this pantry was the best idea I’ve ever, ever had. This post is all about how I organized it into zones.
4. Let There Be Light!
This is the most recent project at HQ – how I took down our plantation shutters and replaced them with curtains. It’s amazing the difference – so much more light in our family room!
3. Guest Room Redo
In anticipation of a house full of guests, I cleaned up and redid the guest room to make it more guest-friendly (and pretty).
I recovered the headboard (here’s the first post about adding fabric to this headboard), added blankets and a heavier duvet to the bed, and organized my craft and work stuff to make the guest room a retreat for my guests.
2. Christmas in July
The second most popular post this year was the Christmas in July post. I wrote about and included pictures of some non-traditional Christmas trees. Non-tree trees, in fact.
Drum roll please…the most popular post of 2013 was…
1. Curtain Call
Hands down, this was the most popular post of the year.
How I took plain Ikea white curtains and added food-related words in different script to make unique curtains for our dining room (full disclosure: they are now in our breakfast room, but I still love them!).
Thanks to Kelly at View Along the Way for featuring them in her curtain round-up post!
And there you have it – the most popular posts of 2013.
Thank you for taking time during 2013 to read about what’s going on at HQ. I promise more exciting projects in 2014!
What are some of those projects? Well, we have one big honkin’ project to do this summer, but it’s a surprise for my daughter’s birthday, so you have to promise not to tell her. Promise? M’kay.
We are moving my daughter’s bedroom to our room, moving the guest room to her room, and moving the master bedroom downstairs! Ack! It kind of gives me palpitations just thinking about this project, but it’s going to be fun. Here’s some of what it will entail:
1. Painting my daughter’s green room so that it’s more appropriate for a guest room and not a six-year-old obsessed with the color green.
2. Painting the current master bedroom so that it reflects a six-year-old obsessed with the color green.
3. Moving all the furniture and stuff.
4. Turning the current guest room into a true master bedroom/suite. This room is actually meant to be the master bedroom anyway, but we put the master upstairs because we didn’t want to schlep up and down the stairs when the kids were little and needed us. Now that they are older, it’s time to switch things up.
To turn the current guest room into a master retreat:
a. I’m going to redesign the closet to be a master closet, rather than the storage room it currently is.
b. I’m going to repaint the bathroom.
c. I might try to change out the vanity, but that might require re-tiling, and I’m not sure I want to tackle that yet because it might lead to tearing the whole bathroom out (just being honest here), something we aren’t yet budgetarily prepared for!
d. Hang curtains (ugh – the dreaded curtain rod).
Wow- that’s a lot. But I can’t wait – it’s going to be so much fun to tackle!
OK, that’s a lot for this post. Again, thank you for taking time to read about the projects I tackle here. I am so grateful for you and your feedback, support, and love.
Happy New Year!
