I Left Out the Toaster (and other ways I’m keepin’ it real)

I might have mentioned on Facebook that we had a photoshoot here on Sunday…ACK! I’m so excited about this. Our home is going to be featured in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Sunday Home and Garden section, in its Private Quarters feature!

To say I’m thrilled would be an epic understatement!

I worked really hard to get the house clean and ready for its close up. Lemme tell ya’ – if you want to cross some stuff off your to-do list, invite a photographer over. I knew I had to take care of a bunch of nagging to-dos before Sunday.

For one thing, I had to finish up the guest room! It’s all done except for a few things I’m going to hang on the wall that aren’t ready yet. I finished the daybed, got the room together, and it was done enough.

I picked up the toys.

I fixed the nailhead trim that had come off two of the dining room chairs during our move.

I cleaned the whole house so that it shined like the top of the Chrysler Building, as they say.

But wait! Do you see that toaster?!?

I left it on the counter. Gasp!

I’ve been pondering the toaster for some time now. (Yes, you should worry.) Seriously, though – when you see beautiful kitchens in magazines and on Pinterest, they often have nothing on their countertops. No utensils, no coffee maker (wha?!?), and no toaster. I’m baffled by this.

Clearly they make toast, right? Or bake the occasional potato?

The only answer is that they hid it for the photoshoot so that their kitchen looked clean/neat/big. Because I know we all have toasters. Or at least coffee makers (am I right?).

I decided to keep it real and leave the toaster out. I’m a rebel, after all. But mainly, I wanted to show my kitchen as one in which we cook and live. We make toast. Everyone should know that. Or at least we shouldn’t hide from it.

I’ll let you know when the feature will appear. It should be late March-early April, I think. It’ll be online and in print, so hopefully I can share it with all of you!

Thanks for stopping by!

I’d never make it to the photo shoot … would’ve been hospitalized with a heart attack, early on … just worrying about it! It’ll be fun to see the article, Karen 🙂

LOL! You’d be fine. I was panicked at first, but, once I got the guest room done, I was ok. Thank you!!

Karen, your home is GORGEOUS! 🙂 Keepin’ it real is beautiful. Even though I don’t toast, I drink copious amounts of coffee so that is front and central. I admit I DO want one of those pop-up platforms for my Kitchenaid mixer. 🙂
